More About Me
I was born in central west Queensland, Australia and have lived much of my life in most states of Australia. After visiting the beautiful country of New Zealand on holiday in 2014, my Scottish husband and I moved there shortly afterwards.
After travelling and exploring much of New Zealand, living in Auckland, Wellington, Dunedin and Christchurch – enjoying its climate and beauty, we moved back to Australia in 2024 to enjoy further travel in Australia exploring places we haven’t yet been as ‘grey nomads’. We also love to travel internationally when we can to enjoy experiencing the many beautiful countries, meeting its interesting people and tasting their wonderful foods.
In my career, I have accrued an extensive and vast range of experience in various clinical medical backgrounds, having worked as a nurse for most of my life as well as serving in the military, within the medical core.
I have also worked in the sex work industry, veterinary nursing, ambulance service, community-aged care assessments team, medical and pharmaceutical sales, held management positions and had various other medical based roles before training as a Counsellor. I have achieved the qualifications of an Australian Diploma of Counselling as well as a New Zealand Bachelor of Social Services (Counselling) with Distinction.
After moving to New Zealand, I worked in the specialty areas of both family violence and sexual violence with clients who have been harmed, as well as clients who have caused the harm.
l also trained as a Restorative Justice Practitioner and Facilitator with speciality endorsements gained in both family violence and sexual violence.
Because I am passionate about providing the best support I can to all my clients with their varied needs, I have undertaken (and continue to take) significant further training in various therapy modalities so that I am able to provide clients with a more bespoke way of working – adjusting my techniques in each session to suit the circumstances presented by the client in that moment. This allows me to provide very specific and focussed support as its needed so I journey with you, meeting you where you are at. This is an important distinction as I believe my role is not to try and force or coax you onto my path – but to help figure out where you got lost and support you back onto your chosen path, to help you fill any potholes in the path as you move along, and to take any new paths as you desire. I accept you for who you are in the here and now. Importantly, I don’t judge you. I just help you find hope when you have lost it, until you feel ready to walk the path without me once again.
I look forward to supporting you walk your own path, whenever you are ready with Somatic Psychotherapies.
